The Laurentian Voyageurs baseball team are going to have to try and break a four-game losing skid on the road this weekend after dropping a pair of games to both the Western Mustangs and Laurier Golden Hawks last weekend.
Despite falling behind 7-0 in their opener versus UWO, the Voyageurs made things interesting scoring three times in the fifth inning (Matt Obradovich drove in Chris Ross with their first run at home and Noah Casault plated another on a fielders choice) and adding another in the sixth before Western shut the door, 7-4.
Shortstop Andrew Weber doubled in the sixth, coming around to score on an RBI single by Ethan Berubé while local pitcher Noah Leveillé kept the Mustangs off the board for a pair of innings late in the game.
Laurentian starter Callum Belshaw kept things close in the second half of this double-header, his team trailing 2-0 after four before the visitors gradually pulled away for a 6-2 win.
Obradovich doubled and drove in a pair as the homeside were limited to just five hits and three walks.
Facing Laurier Sunday morning, the Voyageurs led 1-0 after three but were bounced for seven in the fourth as the Golden Hawks tripled L.U. 9-3. Josh MacNeil drove in all three runs for coach Steve Donahue and company, with Obradovich scoring twice in his role as leadoff hitter.
Finally, Nick Verbeek battled his way through seven innings on the mound in the weekend finale, tagged for ten hits but only three earned runs as Laurier blanked Laurentian 5-0.
Noah Casault recorded two of the five Voyageurs hits, his team now preparing to face the Ottawa Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens twice each in the nation's capital, their record now sitting at 1-6-1.
