Making the move from Sudbury to New Jersey, transitioning from head coach of the Laurentian Voyageurs men's basketball team to an assistant role with the Long Island Nets (NBA G League affiliates of the Brooklyn Nets), Shawn Swords surely hopes for some positive rollover to his coaching career.

The biggest beneficiaries of the move to the States, however, might well be daughters Syla (committed to the Michigan Wolverines - 2024) and Savannah - aka "Savvy", a 2026 prospect.

Syla Swords went from an unranked newcomer to the Long Island Lutheran squad that was one of the best in the entire country (USA) last year to a five star recruit in the matter of a year or so.

Coming off a phenomenal summer of basketball with national team age group entries competing internationally (not to mention a stint with Canada's Women's team), Swords is now ranked as the 11th best prospect in the United States coming into her final year of high-school play.

This from ESPN, no less.

"Swords has lead guard savvy and intangibles as well as scoring guard fearlessness and skill," noted Shane Laflin of ESPN in a story entitled WBB recruiting: The stars of the 2023 summer circuit.

"She moves very well without the ball and understands the subtleties to executing cuts, screens and actions. She shoots a true jump shot out to the 3-point line, which is rare. She is one of those players whose effort just never falters."

Not to be left out in the cold, Savannah, who also plays with the LuHi Crusaders, came in at #13 in an early look at the Class of 2026 as ranked by the folks at ESPN.
