GSSC teams hitting the win column far more often than not
2023-06-29

GSSC (Greater Sudbury Soccer Club) Impact teams continue to enjoy a great deal of success competing in the Toronto Soccer League (TOSL) for the first time this summer.

Under the guidance of head coach Moises Santos, the Impact U13 boys are topping their standings with a record of 5-1-0, bookending a pair of wins in recent weeks around their only setback of the summer.

The Sudbury lads edged Olympic Flame 3-2 earlier this month courtesy of goals from Fengning Ye, Hudson Green and Rhys Johnson-Calixte, but took it on the chin the next day in a 6-1 loss to North York FC (Angelo Kalonji with the GSSC goal).

Kalonji remained red hot in their next encounter, recording the hat trick in helping to lead the Impact to a 7-6 win in a wild affair with Asante Elite.

Xander Millett added a pair of strikes with Alexandre Ben-Anteur and Fengning Ye also finding the back of the net once each in the high-scoring match.

The U14 Impact girls improved to 5-0-0, blanking the Barrie Spirit 3-0 (goals from Emma Macauley, Mia Beites, Ryann Chevrier; shutout - Anika Rheaume) before walking off with a forfeited 3-0 victory over UMSC (Unionville Milliken SC).

Coach Steve Gallo and company have a handful of big games coming up in July, including key matchups with both Stouffville (3-0-1) and the North York Cosmos (3-1-0).

The Impact U18 boys also remained undefeated in similar fashion, handed their first draw of the year versus the Toronto Azzuri (2-2 - goals from Maliq Olanrewaju and Nicholas McGee) and a defaulted win over Oshawa Turul.

In HDSL (Huronia District Soccer League) action, the Impact U15 boys "B" crew swept a pair of weekend games, tripling Muskoka United 3-1 (Pierce Rothwell - 2; Isaac Contois-Ndlovu) and crunching the Wasage Beach U14 lads 8-1.

Rothwell scored a pair of goals, joined in that department by both Colton Cooke and Kaidin McFarlane, with Joel Linton and Contois-Ndlovu adding the others.

After enduring a frustrating season of cancelled games and opposition that ranged from far too strong to excessively weak in 2022, the Impact U21 women seemed to have found their comfort zone this summer.

The ultra competitive outings continued recently as the ladies tied the Markham Lightning 2-2 (Brooke Dugas; Alyssa Eid), edged the same team 3-2 the next day (Charlene Frew - 2; Kiara Levac) and dropped a close 2-1 decision to the Woodbridge Strikers the following weekend (Charlene Frew).

Finally, the Impact U21 men have taken full advantage of the wave of new arrivals to the region, restocking their lienup and hitting the win column in the process.

Ayoub El Aasri, Diallo Hafiss Adou and Joaquin Polanco handled the offense as Sudbury edged York United FC Primavera 3-2 in Ontario Soccer League play recently.

The team followed that up with another solid effort, a 6-2 win over the Barrie Spirit as Gabriel Campagnaro shone with a three goal performance. Diallo Hafiss Adou, Joaquin Polance and Timi Aliu rounded out the scoring for the winners.
