Lauren Pineau has already enjoyed the OFSAA experience with track and field, nordic skiing and cross-country. It only stands to reason that she might want to add tennis to the mix, if given the chance.

The grade 11 super athlete at Lockerby Composite will likely have to ponder that decision having captured the NOSSA Girls Singles title last Friday on Manitoulin Island, beating an opponent from North Bay.

"It would be really cool to play people from all over the place," said Pineau. "I've really only played people from around my cottage in Southampton. I am really interested in seeing how I stand up against other players."

Years ago, Pineau did play some tennis at the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre, getting a solid grasp of the basics. Over time, her other athletic interests would limit her time to get out to the courts, leaving the sport as pretty much a summer-only endeavour wrapped around family vacation time.

"Tennis is something that you can easily lose if you stop playing," Pineau stated. "I kind of kept up everything I had, but I had to work on my consistency - and a lot on mental focus."

"I tend to get really frustrated really easily."

After taking the SDSSAA title fairly comfortably, Pineau would find herself pushed to the limit at the event hosted at Manitoulin Secondary School in M'Chigeeng. "The girl I played in the final was a really good match," she said.

"We were really even. We had long, hard rallies. I had some nice rallies at cities but she hit a lot harder with a lot more top spin. The match went to a tie-breaker."

Joining Pineau in qualifying for the OFSAA Tennis Championships scheduled to take place in Toronto from June 5th to the 7th are Boys Singles champion Noah Bulbring of Lo-Ellen, the Champlain Girls Doubles team of VĂ©ronick Fortier and Madison Smith and the Boys Doubles tandem of Jonah Poxleitner and Stephen Suorineni, also of Lo-Ellen.

The St Charles College mixed doubles pairing of Madison Hollohan and Tanner Rollins made it to the finals but had to settled for silver.
