Mai Hisaki gets five games in at OFSSA before falling to NOSSA champ
2023-05-17

The only SDSSAA representative to make their way to the 2023 OFSAA Badminton Championships in Port Hope, Mai Hisaki of St Benedict Catholic Secondary School would finish with a record of 2-3, eliminated in the "B" Draw Consolation bracket by a fellow NOSSA competitor.

Hisaki opened play on a winning note, taking down Kathryn Beresford of Maxwell Heights Secondary School in Oshawa in round one action, dispatched to the "B" Draw after falling to Karen Ki of Toronto, a former member of the Yonex Junior National Team (2020-2021) and the eventual bronze medal winner in the "A" bracket.

Hisaki would get back on the winning track, defeating Tien Mai from the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC), the latter moving along to claim gold in the "C" Division high-school bracket for which the local product would have qualified - had she lost.

Remaining in the "B" Division, Hisako was beaten by Sydney Watson of the host Port Hope High School, bumped down to the consolation side where she would come up short versus Olivia Popp from E.S.C. Algonquin in North Bay, the young lady who captured gold at NOSSA in Girls Singles play late last month.
