2022-12-25

Teams from across the province came to the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex for the Greater Sudbury Ringette Tournament at the end of November - and when all was said and done, championship banners made their way back to many of those very same outposts.

No less than five different ringette association would enjoy the winning feeling, this despite the fact that there were but six divisional titles up for grabs.

Both the 18+ B Division and the U14 A Division would see local reps emerging victorious, with the older of the two actually featuring an all-Sudbury final.

Katrina Trimmer and Marc Pilon scored two goals each as Greater Sudbury (Sohm) bounced Greater Sudbury (Spence) 8-2 in the gold medal affair. Tara Sohm, Lauren Somers, Amanda Silvestri and Jennifer D'Aoust rounded out the scoring for the winners while Kristen Dubreuil took care of all of the scoring for the Spence crew, who scored three goals in the final 4:09 to earn a 9-8 win in the semi-finals.

Already with one tournament banner to their credit this year, the Greater Sudbury U14 North Stars outscored Waterloo 5-3 in the final, with Brooke Lanovaz showing the way with a two-goal effort.

Joslyn McLaughlin, Jacqueline MacMillan and Kienna Bracken also chipped in while Cory Chris (2) and Erin Bates answered in a losing cause.

The closest of the finals was surely the U12A bracket as Brooklym Adams scored in the final minute of play, lifting Sault Ste Marie past Greater Sudbury 5-4.

Mya Sloss, Gabriella Nowitski, Jessica Fasanello and Leah Vaughan also found the back of the net for the Soo, whose goaltender Emma Farenzena enjoyed a successful return to her hometown, her father's family very well-known in the local sports community.

Addison Resmer hit the mark twice for Sudbury, with Quinn Armstrong and Sara Levasseur adding one goal apiece.

Annabelle Come almost single-handedly took care of business in the U12 B Division final, scoring five times as Iroquois Falls downed West Ferris 7-2.

Lexi Proulx and Audrey Audet also hit the scoresheet for Iroquois Falls while Hailey Maxwell and Rebeccah Smales countered with goals for West Ferris

Goals by Allison Bois and Gracie MacKenzie snapped a 1-1 tie, propelling the Walden Ring Devils to a 3-1 win over Iroquois Falls and the U14B Division crown

Ava-Jane Jamieson (Walden) and Tehya Virta (Iroquois Falls) had traded tallies earlier in the contest

And finally, the Arnprior-McNab Devils were trailing 5-4 when they erupted for four unanswered goals and then held on at the end, edging Iroquois Falls 8-7 in the U19 B Division finale.

Ashley Clemmer, Kiersten Yuke and Vayda Vernick potted two goals apiece for the winners with Mariza Soares da Silviera and Zoe McLaren rounding things out.

Anthony Cousineau (4 goals) and Ella Brumwell (3) handled all of the offense for the crew from the Falls, situated between Timmins and Cochrane.
