One extra tournament for 14U Chill
2017-04-05
by Randy Pascal

One final “bonus” weekend, of sorts, for the Northern Chill 14U girls, who took advantage of a break in their schedule, competing at the “15U Bugarski Cup – Trillium H” tournament in Barrie late last month. In fact, with provincial championships scheduled for just one week later, a total of four teams from the younger bracket opted to sign up for one additional competition.

The Chill garnered some early momentum, downing the West Nipissing 14U Wild 28-26, 26-24, before falling to the Georgian Cubs 15U crew 17-25, 13-25. The Cubs would continue to be their nemesis, as the Sudbury girls dropped a 23-25, 13-25 decision to the Georgian 14U team in their cross-over encounter, but rallied against the Orillia Suns Apex (14U) 25-19, 26-24 in order to slide in to fifth place in a field of nine teams.

“It was a great chance to face some tougher competition going into provincials,” noted Chill head coach Eric Bacon. “The girls played well at this tournament.”

The 2016-2017 edition of the Northern Chill U14 is comprised of Kyla Parsons, Emily Ayotte, Maggy Davidson, Fyscher McQueen, Josée Beauchamp, Julianna Toppazzini, Elizabeth Hughes, Danielle Stinson, Jorja Bast, Faith Charbonneau, Danika Osterberg and Sydney Nicholls, as well as assistant coach John Peacock.
