With the hardware doled out, it is on to 2024-2025

Well that wasn't much of an off-season at all for the Sudbury Wolves.

On the same week that the local OHL club announced their 2023-2024 individual award winners, unofficially closing the books on the campaign that finished with a disapointing secound round sweep at the hands of the North Bay Battalion, the team also sent out media releases confirming the signing of both the first and second round picks from the 2024 OHL Entry Draft held earlier this month.

First to the hardware.

A second round pick of Seattle Krakken in 2022, forward David Goyette most likely bid adieu to the nickel city this week, capping off a tremendous career by securing three different trophies: Samuel Rothschild - MVP; Bill Plaunt - Top Scorer; Pete Shields - Most Assists.

Matching that output was overage defenceman Andre Anania as the Richmond Hill native took home the Joe Drago Players' Player award, was named Top Defenceman and garnered recognition as the Top Plus Minus Player (+49).

In walking off with the Jim Pappin Memorial Award (presented to a player who demonstrates the same high level of intentsity and compete on a daily basis throughout the season), Nathan Villeneuve will be just the second name etched on to the trophy that was introduced this time last year, following in the footsteps of Kocha Delic.

Dual hardware winners included Dalibor Dvorsky (Leadership Award; Most Goals) and Alex Pharand (Scholastic Award; Community Service Award), with Kieron Walton honoured with the Gord Ewin Most Improved Player award and Landon McCallum receiving the Best Defensive Player accolades.

With those festivities out of the way, the team immediately turned their attention to the 2024-2025 season, announcing the signing of first round pick Luca Blonda (defenceman from Sault Ste Marie) and forward Ethan Dean (native of London).
