Gators waited patiently for girls hockey title shot
2017-04-01
by Randy Pascal

A lengthy gap between game two and game three of the SDSSAA Division "II" Girls Hockey Championship did nothing to slow down the Bishop Alexander Carter Gators.

With the best of three series with the Marymount Regals tied at a game apiece, and the deciding encounter set for this past Wednesday, the Gators jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the opening two periods of play, holding off a late Regals' rally and capturing the banner with a 5-3 win.

Goals from McKenna Cresswell, Jayde St Pierre, Kayden Charbonneau, Sydney Hall and Taylor Scott provided just enough cushion for the champs, as Emma Chamberland netted a pair of late tallies for Marymount, joined on the scoresheet by Keagan McCoshen.

This latest triumph marked the third time in the past four years that Bishop Carter has laid claim to the Division "II" crown, with the Lo-Ellen Park Knights taking top honours in 2014-2015.

Only the Horizon Aigles have more Division II titles to their credit, earning bragging rights on five separate occasions - 2010, 2007, 2005, 2003 and 2002.
