Cubs shake things up between the pipes

With just one move, the Greater Sudbury Cubs have found a way to make a pair of proven netminders very, very happy.

The Cubs announced today that NOJHL veteran Noah Metivier has been shipped to the Soo Thunderbirds in return for a player development fee.

"When Noah recently informed us that he would love to play in front of his family and friends for his final season of junior hockey, our organization did not hesitate to honour his request," noted Cubs GM Dave Clancy in a team-issued media release.

"Noah has served the Cubs very well over the past two seasons, providing us with outstanding goaltending and leading us to our organizational goal of winning a league championship," added Clancy of the 20 year-old puckstopper who was named NOJHL Playoff MVP this past spring.

The bonus for the Cubs is that this moves also allows fellow 20 year old Noah Beaulne to assume the role as #1 starter after sharing time with Metivier the past two years.

A draft pick of the Kingston Frontenacs in 2020, Beaulne has posted an impressive win-loss record of 37-6-2 in 50 appearances over the past two seasons in the NOJHL.

The Hanmer (ON) native recorded a goals against average of 2.43 and a save percentage of .913 to finish in third place among league goaltenders last season. He also registered a shutout over the Quebec entry in the Centennial Cup in Oakville in May.

Finally, the move also potentially frees up more playing time for Matthew Vahramian, the 18 year-old goaltender who was acquired from the Elliot Lake Vikings this past January.
