The Sudbury Voyageurs' teams have certainly proven that they can more than hold their own competing against the very best players from Ottawa, the GTA, Windsor, London and such in the PBLO (Premier Baseball League of Ontario).
It should come as no surprise then that as individuals, members of the Voyageurs’ squads should also stand out, as was the case a couple of weeks ago at the league all-star games in London.
Officially speaking, OF/P Noah Léveillé was named 18U game MVP after going 2/3 with a pair of RBIs as well as making a key connecting throw in nailing an opposing base runner at third base. Unofficially, A.J. Dubeau was recognized as the de facto MVP of the 16U affair thanks to a stat line that featured: 4/5 at the plate; five RBIs; great defensive play.
Although he veered towards pitching as a priority early in his career with the Voyageurs, Léveillé now finds himself more focused on the outfield – with results that speak for themselves.
“I will pitch every once in a while but I’m mostly an outfielder this season, just because of my speed and how they like to utilize me,” noted the 18 year old grade 12 student at E.S. Champlain.
“During the winter, I still practice my pitching. I find the arm care and the way that we work our arms tends to help me. It helps strengthen my arm, allows me to throw further.” And quite accurately, apparently, as his all-star opponents would note.
Joining Léveillé and Dubeau in representing Sudbury baseball at the event were the 18U trio of Alex Frawley, Nicolas Signorile and Callum Baron and the 16U troika of Braiden Paul, Gabriel Larocque and Justin Dandeneau.
