Sudbury 18U Voyageurs' pitchers Ryan Lacasse, Callum Baron, Ethan Morris and Will Arsenault limited the Ontario Rockies to a total of just four runs over the course of three games as the locals completed a four-game sweep in PBLO (Premier Baseball League of Ontario) play last weekend.
Lacasse set the tone early, scattering five hits, striking out a pair of batters while walking four and allowing just a single run to cross the plate as Sudbury opened with an 8-1 win over the Rockies.
Jet Bertrand collected his first two of eight hits in the series, driving in a pair, with FĂ©lix Aubin joining him in the two-hit club. Ethan Morris came around to score a pair of runs as seven different Voyageurs were plated in game one.
Game two required some late inning dramatics as Sudbury scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 6-5 win, making a winner of pitcher Liam Norman who came on in relief of starter Nico Signorile (5.2 IP; three hits; two runs - zero ER; four strikeouts).
Devan Madore went 2/4, registering a pair of runs scored while Ethan Morris was 2/3 with two RBIs. Jet Bertrand excelled in the leadoff spot, making things happen (3/5 - 1 run - 1 rbi) as the locals went up 4-0 but saw the Rockies fight back with two in the sixth and three more in the seventh inning to take the lead - temporarily.
More dominance in game three as Callum Baron spun a two-hit masterpiece, striking out five in a 10-0 win as the Voyageurs took full advantage of no less than six errors committed by their opponents.
Throw in 11 walks (Alex Frawley (3); Jet Bertrand (2); Ethan Morris (2) leading the way) and Sudbury did not require a whole lot more than the four hits they mustered to run away with this one.
The bats were booming in the finale however as the northern lads pounded out 11 hits, thumping the Rockies 13-3 in game four. While Bertrand and Signorile registered two hits apiece, the more impressive stat might lie in the fact that nine of the ten Voyageurs who stepped up to the plate recorded at least one hit.
Signorile was at the centre of much of the action, scoring twice and driving in three with Cameron Bauer chipping in with a pair of ribbies. Ethan Morris started on the mound, going four innings and holding the Rockies to a two-spot with Will Arsenault mopping things up over the final two innings, tagged for just one unearned run.
