Sudbury Five assemble roster for upcoming season

With the start of the National Basketball League of Canada 2022-2023 season in northern Ontario set for the weekend of January 7th/8th, the Sudbury Five have been busy these past three months, assembling their roster for the upcoming year.

Following is a breakdown of the team signings since mid-October:

A.J. Mosby: A 6'3" graduate of Alcorn State, Mosby was named an HBCU second team All-American, pursuing his pro career thereafter in the Republic of Georgia as well as with the North Arizona Sun Kings and Erie Bay Hawks of the NBA G League. Suiting up in the TBL last year, Mosby netted 37 points in an inter-locking win over the London Lightning of the NBLC

Jeremy Harris: A known quantity to the Five, Harris averaged 19.2 points per game in 2021-2022 over a stretch of 27 encounters, posting impressive shooting percentages in general (field goal - 48%) and from beyond the arc (36.2%). With NCAA experience with both the Gulf Coast State and the University of Buffalo, Harris moved overseas to play with Boras Basket in Sweden's professional league before returning to North America last year

Montell McRae: A native of Cleveland (Ohio), McRae actually played on road game for the Five last year after being selected by the Cleveland Charge of the G League in 2021. A 6'10" forward, McRae was with the UBSC Raiffeisen Graz of the Austrian Professional League followed his time with the Buffalo Bulls (D1)

Evan Harris: Now 36 years of age, Harris is a veteran of the professional ranks, his lengthy career including stops in Romania, Germany, Portugal, France, Slovakia, Japan and Norway. A native of Los Angeles, the 6'9" forward averaged 6.5 rebounds per game last year with the Five

Jaylen Bland: One of the most recognizable names on the Sudbury roster, Bland is reconnecting with Dexter Williams Jr and a host of newcomers with the Five after leading the NBLC in scoring last year. A 6'3" guard, Bland has spent time with the Salt Lake City Stars (G League), as well as making a name for himself in both Luxembourg and Mexico

Jairus "J.R." Holder: A former NBLC Newcomer of the Year, Holder first joined the Five for the 2019-2020 season, averaging more than 36 minutes per game and torching from the three-point line to the tune of a 44.5% shooting efficiency rate

Jasonn Hannibal: With six seasons of international basketball experience under his belt, the 6'11" Hannibal comes to Sudbury from his most recent stop with Pegasus Kin Lung in Hong Kong (2021-2022), where he averaged 26 points and 18 rebounds per game. A native of Mississauga who played his NCAA ball with the Portland University Pirates, Hannibal has NBLC experience with the Halifax Hurricanes (2014-2015)

Haround Mohamed: After spending four years with the Laurentian Voyageurs (five if you include 2020-2021 lost to Covid), Mohamed begins his pro career in a city that he knows well. Demonstrating constant progress during his time at L.U., the GTA-based guard was particularly key in 2021-2022, exceeding 15 points per game in his final year of OUA competition

Duane Notice: Never a team to miss out on a chance to add more depth in their perimtere game, the Sudbury Five most recently added University of South Carolina all-time games leader (138) and second leading three-point shooter (219 all-time) Duane Notice, a one-time member of the Canadian national team. He comes north after spending last winter with the Hamilton Honeyy Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League
