Downpour does not dissuade the SRSA men
2014-08-23

With the threat of rain already cancelling a number of SRSA (Sudbury Regional Soccer Association) men's games in recent weeks, the teams decided to tough it out Tuesday evening at Queen's Athletic Field, braving a torrential downpour to get a couple of encounters into the books.

The opener would see Sudbury Athletic Voima double Croatia Adria 6-3, as teams continue to play leapfrog in league standings. In the nightcap, a contraversial late penalty kick call allowed the Italia Flyers to escape with a 2-2 tie against Sudbury Athletic Fury.

Corey McEwen and Antonio Radford-Paz, a recent addition to the Fury, handled the scoring for Athletic, who continue to make headway after a slow start to the summer.

In a rescheduled match, Athletic Voima and Sudbury United played to a 4-4 draw, with Adam Dupuis, Ryan Gasperetto, Matt Laurentie and Mathieu Paradis finding the back of the net for Voima.

Play resumes next Tuesday evening (August 26th) at Queen's, with the Italia Flyers battling United at 7:00 p.m., while the Fury and Croatia Adria tangle at 9:00 p.m. Games in the SRSA men's league continue right through the month of September, with the league championship final slated for October 2nd on the turf at James Jerome.
