Tigers claw their way to Sweetheart Tournament title
by Randy Pascal
Fair to say that the Sudbury Tigers atom girls houseleague team loved their recent trip to Orangeville, capturing gold at the 40th Anniversary Sweetheart
Tournament, with some very close battles along the way.
This close knit group earned top spot in their pool, posting a 2-1 record in round robin play with victories over both Brampton (4-1) and Orangeville
(5-0) mixed in with a tight loss to Caledon (2-1).
No easy route to the championship encounter as the Tigers survived both a quarter-final (vs Barrie: 4-0) and semi-final (vs Chatsworth: 3-2) encounter, setting up
a classic gold medal game against the host Orangeville - Blue crew. The Sudbury girls were triumphant to the tune of an exciting 2-0 win, one that required a late empty-net
goal to ensure a very happy trip north.
Head coach Jason Bergeron was thrilled with the complete team effort that he and his staff received. "This great weekend would not have been possible without
contributions, hard work, perseverance and amazing teamwork from each Tiger," he said.
The 2017-2018 team roster features Aaliyah Osawamick-Scarlett, Addison Bergeron, Amanda Syncox, Avery Baston, Breeana Sullivan, Charlotte Cote, Elizabeth Lumme,
Emily Watson, Gabrielle Foreshew, Hannah Sullivan, Kaitlyn Earl, Kayla Quesnel and Rheanna Crepeault.
