A Woolly Hippo is a good thing on a cold day
by Randy Pascal
The recent swatch of cold weather wasn't nearly enough to deter the local nordic ski enthusiasts who live for this time of year.
The 2018 edition of the Woolly Hippo Ski Races, hosted by the Walden Cross Country Club, would draw more than 60 participants last
Saturday in Naughton, despite the fact that the frigid temperatures forced the cancellation of the youth categories.
A brief "window of warmth", as organizer Jessica McShane termed it - relatively speaking, of course - allowed for the majority of events to be
completed in distances covering three, six and twelve kilometres.
Race day provided the perfect opportunity for skiers to log some competitive kilometres, and for volunteers to practice their roles, with the upcoming
Ontario Cup races set to take place, at the same venue, on the weekend of January 19th to the 21st.
