Lockerby looking for one more banner before Christmas
by Randy Pascal

Another tournament banner safely tucked away and on to the next one for the Lockerby Vikings senior girls volleyball team.

The Vikes again bettered the Confederation Chargers in the Cardinal Classic final, sweeping their nemesis from the past two SDSSAA championship encounters in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20.

Lockerby advanced to the gold medal game with a 25-18, 25-19 win over the Lasalle Lancers, while Confederation eliminated the Superior Heights Steelhawks from Sault Ste Marie 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 in semi-final action.

The junior final at St Charles College would require the full three sets, as the Lo-Ellen Park Knights outlasted Lasalle 20-25, 25-20, 15-11 in an all-Sudbury affair.

Lo-Ellen bounced the St Mary's Knights from Sault Ste Marie 25-15, 25-14, booking their ticket in the final, while the Lasalle crew would send the Marymount Regals packing by a final count of 25-23, 21-25, 15-5.

A number of these same teams are in North Bay today, as the Widdifield Wildcats play host to one final tournament prior to the Christmas break. The Gateway City will be welcoming NOSSA hopefuls again in January, with the Scarlet & Gold Junior & Senior Girls Volleyball Tournament being staged at Chippewa Secondary School on January 12th and 13th.
