A logjam with half the league tied in high school boys hockey
by Randy Pascal
The logjam of teams bunched together with four points in the SDSSAA boys hockey standings grew by one last Thursday.
Amazingly, exactly half of the ten team loop now have four points to their credit after the St Benedict Bears evened their season mark at 2-2
with a 5-2 win over the Lasalle Lancers.
The Bears joined the Manitoulin Mustangs (2-2), Lively Hawks (2-3), Lo-Ellen Park Knights (2-4) and Lockerby Vikings (2-5)
in a grouping that finds itself well back of the front-running trio of the St Charles Cardinals (7-0), Horizon Aigles (5-0) and
Confederation Chargers (4-2).
Doing all of their scoring in the opening two periods, St Benedict were paced by a two goal effort from Erik Roussel, with solo markers coming off
the sticks of Justin Basso, Kyle Heightington and Curtis Bertrand.
Jalen Waindubence scored twice in a losing cause for Lasalle, still looking for their first win at 0-5. Three games are on the slate as a new
school week begins, with Manitoulin and Lockerby in Copper Cliff at 3:30 p.m., and Horizon/St Benedict and Lasalle/Confederation tackling the Monday night
double-header at Carmichael.
