A pre-season win for the Rayside-Balfour Canadians
2017-08-27
by Randy Pascal

Five second period goals from a very balanced attack proved to be the difference as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians tripled the French River Rapids 6-2 in NOJHL (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League) pre-season action on Saturday.

North Bay Battalion prospect Jordan Spadafore opened the scoring with the only tally of the opening frame, but was joined on the scoresheet in the middle stanza by teammates Draper Maclean, Noah Bowman, Carson MacMillan and Matt Neault, leaving the visitors up 5-0 after forty minutes of play.

Alex Goettlicher got two of the goals back for the Rapids in the third period, but Ronson Odjig closed things off with a rare marker for the bruising blueliner.

The game marked the Rayside debut of a number of players, including most recent signee Baldino Aiello. A 1999-born speedster from Thunder Bay, Aiello comes in at 5'9" and suited up with the Thunder Bay Major Midget "AAA" Kings one year ago.

The Canadians will now break for a little over a week, with a number of players heading off to OHL camps next weekend. Coach Dave Clancy and company are back on the ice on Tuesday, September 5th, in the late afternoon in Chelmsford.
