Group of six to join Laurentian womens soccer
by Randy Pascal
A diversified mix of new recruits will join head coach Rob Gallo and the Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer team when training camp opens
in mid-August. Following is a brief bio of each of the six signings that were announced earlier this week:
Lina Audet (Sudbury) - Fresh off an OFSAA performance with the Macdonald-Cartier Panthères, Audet is the only local product confirmed
as a 2017 addition. A midfielder through her many years of competitive soccer with the Greater Sudbury Soccer Club, Audet is suiting up with the
Impact U-21 women's team this summer, playing in the Provincial Elite U-21 OWSL.
Shantae Johnson (Port Perry) - A graduate of Pine Ridge Secondary School, Johnson is primarily a product of the Ajax FC Red 1999
Girls team which competed in the OYSL (Ontario Youth Soccer League). A versatile defender and all-around athlete with a background in hockey, cross
country and rugby as well, Johnson is playing with Darby FC in League1 Ontario before heading to Laurentian.
Heather McGregor (Whitby) - A goalkeeper with Darlington FC of the OYSL, McGregor comes by her love of the Voyageurs quite naturally,
with parents who are both graduates of Laurentian. Entering the Nursing program at L.U., McGregor is set to graduate from Donald A. Wilson Secondary
School later this month.
Araya Migwans-Bryan (Bowmanville) - A black belt in taekwondo who also excelled in volleyball and badminton in high school, Migwans-Bryan
provides coach Gallo the type of athleticism and flexibility to comfortably refer to her as a "box to box" player. Known for her tenacity and work ethic,
the graduate of St Stephen's Secondary School will join Johnson with Darby FC this summer.
Alex Perfetti (Aurora) - Success has followed Perfetti throughout her career with Aurora United FC, helping the program claim OYSL
titles the past two years, silver at Ontario Cup in two of the past three years, and capturing the Quebec-Ontario Cup last October. Slotting
in at either centerback or outside back, Perfetti would love nothing more than to enjoy the same success as a member of the Blue & Gold as did her father
Luciano, an OUA all-star with the Voyageurs in 1977.
Kylie Swain (Acton) - A current member of the Guelph Gryphons Soccer Club (OYSL), Swain is an attacking midfielder who will join
fellow rookie Heather McGregor as first year Nursing students at L.U. She will complete her high school studies at King Secondary School later this
month, focusing on her first university training camp in just over two months time.
