SportLink seeks to add new board members
by Randy Pascal

SportLink – Greater Sudbury Sport Council will be hosting its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the evening of Wednesday, May 24th, beginning at 7:00 p.m., in Room C12 of Tom Davies Square.

Actively involved with the recent 2021 Canada Summer Games bid, the local group will continue to push forward the importance of Sports Tourism in Sudbury, working hand in hand with municipal officials.

Thanks to the approval of a pair of recent Ontario Trillium Foundation grants, SportLink will begin a very busy stretch of time, with projects including working with sports organizations across northeastern Ontario regarding the advancement of accreditation of coaches and officials in a variety of fields.

Furthermore, later this summer, we will see the launch of the Sport for Life initiative which brings together representatives from the fields of Education, Sport & Recreation, Health as well as Early Childhood Education to work collaboratively in advancing both Physical Literacy and Physical Activity within the community.

Finally, the SportLink mandate of providing support in the areas of promotion and marketing, accessing government funding, volunteer attraction and promotion, and various other endeavours, is sure to rank the next few years as among the most active in the history of the council.

With that in mind, we are hoping to attract another four to five new board members to join SportLink in moving forward our mandate, and sport, in general, locally. Meetings are held on a monthly basis, with a relatively limited demand on the time of the volunteers between meetings.

What we need are energetic, positive and creative individuals, ideally who have been involved in amateur sports in various capacities over the years, and are interested in seeing Sudbury thrive in the years to come.
