Barclay Branch moves on, Rob Papineau in as GM
by Randy Pascal
General Manager and Head Scout Barclay Branch is leaving the Sudbury Wolves, though the OHL rumour mill is abuzz with word that his
departure from the league will be extremely short-lived.
Earlier this afternoon, the Wolves made official the chatter circulating around the Nickel City this Easter weekend, confirming that Branch had indeed
submitted his resignation following two seasons with the team.
Originally hired while ownership of the team was in the hands of Mark Burgess and family, Branch would find himself reporting to newly appointed
Director of Hockey Operations Rob Papineau, not long after the local team was purchased by Dario Zulich.
The Monday media release also noted that Papineau will "assume the role of General Manager, effective immediately". In the meantime, a tweet from Jeff
Marek of Sportsnet on Saturday noted that he would "expect George Burnett to be named GM of the Guelph Storm and Barclay Branch GM of
the Flint Firebirds early next week.”
A former OHLer himself and graduate of the Sports Administration program at Laurentian, Papineau had been involved in recent years in a scouting
capacity with the Carolina Hurricanes.
