De la Riva prepares for local tournament with victory in Gatineau

Local up and coming squash talent Charles de la Riva Jr recently breezed through the competition in Gatineau, capturing the Quebec Jr Open 17U Division without coming close to surrendering double digit points.

Seeded first entering play, de la Riva bounced William de Sainte Marie 11-4, 11-3, 11-2, following up with a semi-final win over Karim Michael every bit as efficiently (11-1, 11-5, 11-3).

With the draw staying true to form, de la Riva would face the second seed, Barrett Aass in the final, the latter also coming off a string of six straight set victories.

Something had to give, and it wasn't about to be the Northern Ontario talent, as de la Riva swept aside Aass by a final count of 11-3, 11-6, 11-3.

De la Riva will now prepare for the 2017 Northern Open PSA Squash Tournament, taking place from April 17th through to the 22nd at the Sudbury YMCA.
