A completely different version of the N C Wolves on day two
by Randy Pascal

In the span of just 24 hours, the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves managed to travel from one end of the team performance spectrum to the other extreme. A 7-1 opening game loss to the Windsor Jr Spitfires Monday evening would stand in stark contrast to an impressive 6-0 whitewash of the Cornwall Colts on Tuesday.

The local midgets wasted little time turning things around on the second day of the OHF Central Region Midget "AAA" Championships, receiving first period goals from Joel Mongeon and Glenn Therrien and never looking back.

Both players would add their second tallies of the game on power plays later in the contest, joined on the scoresheet by Alex Rodrigue and Brandon Atkins, while netminder Alex Vendette turned aside all 23 shots that he faced in recording the shutout.

The win leaves the Nickel Capital Wolves sitting in a tie for third place with the North Bay Trappers, chasing down the unbeaten Windsor Jr Spitfires (2-0) and Mississauga Rebels (1-0-1).

The Oakville Rangers (0-1-1) find themselves one point back of the GNML (Great North Midget League) duo, while Cornwall (0-2) remains search of their first win of the tournament.

Following is a recap of the games not involving the Sudbury squad that have been played to date:

North Bay Trappers 3 - Jake Gravelle, Ian Denomme, Ryan Mills
Oakville Rangers 2 - Liam Donnelly, Emmet Serensits

Mississauga Rebels 4 (Nathan Smilsky, Dante Jones, Thomas McKeown, Evan Benwell)
Cornwall Colts 1 (Jason Cossette)

Mississauga Rebels 4 (Elijah Gonsalves-2, Dante Jones, Ryan Madigan)
Oakville Rangers 4 (Holden Doggett-2, Curtis Emery, Cooper Johnson)

Windsor Jr Spitfires 7 (Preston Corp-2, Jacob Rosa-2, Cole Welsh, Gianluca Pizzuto, Justin Bondy)
North Bay Trappers 4 (Matt Hardwick, Nick Davis, Jake Gravelle, Joe Whittet)

Action on Wednesday sees Windsor and Mississauga going toe to toe at noon, followed by Cornwall versus Oakville at 3:30 p.m., and the all-northern Sudbury - North Bay showdown set for 7:00 p.m.

The Nickel Capital Wolves close out round robin play with battles against Oakville (Thursday at 7:00 p.m.) and Mississauga (Friday at 3:00).
