Kadre Gray honoured as top university freshman
2017-03-13
by Randy Pascal

Becoming just the third person in the history of the Laurentian Voyageurs men's basketball program to be honoured with a national individual award, Kadre Gray was presented, last week, the Dr Peter Mullins Trophy, bestowed annually to the U Sports Rookie of the Year.

A 6'1" guard and native of Toronto, Gray took the OUA by storm in 2016-2017, leading the league in scoring with 23.2 points per game, finishing with a final total of 441 points, second in the entire country.

A Human Kinetics major, Gray joins an elite group that features only Brad Hann (Ken Shields Award - basketball, academics & community service - 1994-1995) and Charlie Wise (Player of the Year - 1977-78).

Gray was also named to the U Sports All-Rookie team, joining Eddie Ekiyor (Carleton), Scott Kellum (Victoria), Jamaal Potopsingh (New Brunswick) and Kendrick Jolin (McGill).

The last Voyageur to garner that honour was Manny Pasquale back in 2009-2010.
