Johnson leads Cambrian to another quarter-final berth 2016-10-23 by Randy Pascal
With a record breaking season already in the books, there was no really good reason for Tiffany Johnson to slow down come playoff time. The OCAA
all-time leading scorer in women’s soccer, and single season record holder with 28 goals this year, Johnson scored twice on Saturday at home, helping the
Cambrian Golden Shield advance to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over the Niagara Knights.
Coming off a 10-2-0 regular season performance, the Cambrian ladies received another shutout performance from Collège Notre-Dame graduate Megan
Coutu. “The women's squad got the job done, per se,” noted Cambrian head coach Giuseppe Politi.
“We squandered a lot of quality chances and could have closed off the game earlier. That said, we denied our opponents to virtually no registered shots
on goal.” Qualifying for the OCAA quarter-finals for a fourth straight season, the Shield will face the Fanshawe Falcons from London, a squad that
topped the West Division standings with a record of 9-0-1.
“It will be a very tough game, but we will give it everything we have and try to keep our season alive to ultimately challenge for a medal," said
Politi. Cambrian and Fanshawe will open the four game set on Thursday (October 27th) in Windsor, taking to the pitch at 9:00 a.m.
