L.U. x-country crew return from Rochester
2016-10-05
by Randy Pascal

The preparation continues for the OUA Cross-Country Championships later this month, as both the Laurentian Voyageurs men's and women's teams travelled to Letchworth State Park (New York), site of the annual Mike Woods Geneseo XC Invitational.

With their top five runners separated by only 45 seconds, the L.U. ladies finished third in a field of 22 teams (288 runners), with Sault Ste Marie native Marissa Lobert once again showing the way (11th - 22:45).

She was followed in rapid succession by freshman Jenny Bottomley (22nd - 23:11), Nicole Rich (31st - 23:24), Megan Crocker (33rd - 23:30) and Nicole Hessels (34th - 23:30).

Displacers included Breanne Stephen (44th - 23:51) and Lindsay Greasley (103rd - 24:42). Over on the men's side, the Voyageurs posted a very respectable middle of the pack placing (13th of 24 teams), with American Dylan McKevitt enjoying the best local result at 32nd (26:16).

Other "scoring" runners for Laurentian included rookie Jerryd McLeod-Maenpaa (58th - 26:56), Sam Delage (87th - 27:24), Jacob Dupuis-Latour (101st - 27:33) and Bishop Carter product Caleb Beland (127th - 27:58).

Coaches' Comments
Dick Moss: "The men are making progress, with almost everyone running faster than they did a week ago. To finish mid-pack in this large field is definitely encouraging."

Darren Jermyn: "The women really supported each other during this race, with four of them running as a group until the last kilometer."
