Free golf for Juniors, and Ian MacDonald wins in Lively
by Randy Pascal

On the heels of a very successful Women's Golf Day earlier this summer, Timberwolf Golf Club is opening up their course, free of charge, to junior golfers on Friday, August 26th.

"Junior Golf Day" will essentially allow all golfers, under the age of 16, to play for free on August 26th, in the hopes of helping to raise interest and awareness in the sport of golf.

Anyone interested in taking advantage of this offer should call Timberwolf at (705) 524-9653, or visit the club website at "".

There is nothing quite like coming home for Ian MacDonald. A long-time member of the Lively Golf & Country Club, MacDonald now resides in Southern Ontario, where he remains active on the links, returning north typically for a couple of events a summer.

Last Sunday, MacDonald claimed the Lively Men's Open for the fourth time, following up a four under par opening round with an even par performance the next day. His two round total of 138 lifted MacDonald to a two-shot victory over teenage sensation Ward Kyle.

Tied for third, at 143, were the local tandem of Dan Couillard and Tom Cunningham, as the event drew a field of 196 golfers, including a solid contingent of gents who had also cracked either championship or first flight last month at the Idylwylde Invitational.

Back to Timberwolf, as the tandem of Jennie Gauthier and Sean Dowling ran away from the field at the 2016 Molson's Mixed Invitational, posting a two round score of 131, good for a seven stroke win over Karen Yawney and Sam Yawney.

Jasmine MacNeil/Don MacNeil were another shot back, alone in third place, while Annette McDonald/Gary McDonald and Barb Wellard/John Wellard of North Bay rounded out the top five.

Gisele McMurray and Dan Daoust claimed "A" flight honours at 145, just ahead of Moriah Thorpe/Shawn Smith, while Lynn Hope/Bill Hope topped the "B" field at 151.
