Twenty-four elementary teams close off school year with soccer tournament
2016-07-06
by Randy Pascal

Elementary student athletes managed to squeeze in one final soccer tournament before the summer holidays, as schools representing the CSCNO (Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario), CSPGNO (Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord) and SCDSB (Sudbury Catholic District School Board) gathered at the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre on June 24th.

The Ecole St Denis Tigers (Sudbury) and Ecole Jean-Paul II Cometes (Val Caron) monopolized the championship banners, with each school taking home a pair, with the Valley East school also serving as tournament host.

The crew from St-Denis won the Division "A" honours in both grades 3-4 and 5-6 divisions, edging teams from École Jean-Paul II and St. Anne School respectively. The Comètes earned their accolades in the Division "B" ranks, sweeping the grades 3-4 and 5-6 groupings with victories over St. Anne School and École Hélène-Gravelle.

Some 24 teams, in all, took to the field for the friendly event.
