Benoit grouping nine strong at Grand Prix #2
2016-06-21
by Randy Pascal

The Karate Ontario Grand Prix #2, hosted on June 5th in Markham, attracted no less than nine representatives of the Benoit Martial Arts Studio in Sudbury, with four of the local returning home with medals.

Leading the way was Marissa Meandro, who doubled with a gold medal performance in the 14-15 elite kata, and added a bronze medal in 16-17 elite kata. Her long-time clubmate, Bradley Chaput, joined her on the podium, earning a silver in the 16-17 elite kata grouping.

Duncan Smith and Connor DiSalle both scooped up bronze in 12-13 elite kata, while Kai Nener, Juliana Meandro, Marc Foucault, Melissa Wan and Ryan DiSalle rounded out the northern Ontario contingent.

The third Grand Prix of the season is now scheduled for October 23rd, returning to the Pan Am Centre in Markham, though the Benoit athletes are likely to keep busy with countless other events over the course of the next few months.
