Foothills Farm riders find success at Utterson
2013-07-09
by Randy Pascal

Almost a dozen riders and their trusted equestrian mounts travelled from Foothills Farm in Chelmsford to Utterson (near Huntsville) this past weekend, participating in the Trillium Hunter Jumper Association’s (THJA) fifth horse show in the provincial circuit.

Part of a summer-long eight event series, competition took place at Woodridge Riding Center, with many riders from across the North East region in attendance as well.

Attempting to qualify for the Provincial Championships in September at Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave, riders and horses accumulate points over the course of a four-month stretch.

The Provincials will see the North East contingent testing their skills against the best in Ontario, with six other regions also whittling down to determine the best of the best.

The categories of equestrian sport contested at Utterson included Jumper, Hunter, Hack and Equitation divisions. With a combination of skill, poise and class, the Foothills Farm representatives returned home with multiple ribbons in just about every division offered.

Though there were too many ribbons won to mention, following is a list of horses and riders who won enough ribbons to qualify as Champion (1st overall) or Reserve Champion (2nd overall) in their respective divisions:

Miranda Boudreau - Ingenuity (Indy) Hack - Champion

Meredith Knott - Kayley - Trillium Hunter 3'3" - Champion

Camille Bortolotto - Reverence (Izzy) - Open 2'6" Hunter - Champion
Mad About You (Holly) Open 0.9m Jumpers - Reserve Champion

Kate Boudreau - An Obvious Celebrity (Brodie) Beginner - Reserve Champion

Suzanne Beaudry - Reverence (Izzy) Child/Adult 2'6" - Champion

Caitlin Grech - Tyger Lily (Chloe) Child/Adult 2'6" - Reserve Champion

Jaclyn Groom - Kayley - Children's Hunter - Champion

Leah Blanchette - Innocent Me (Mac) Children's Hunter - Reserve Champion

Jessica Leonard - Mad About You (Holly) Modified Child/Adult Medal - Champion

The bulk of the Foothills riders will be in action closer to home on the weekend of July 19th to 21st when the local facility plays host to the annual Rick Smith Memorial Horse Show in Chelmsford.
