Locals shine in regional ringette championships
2013-03-29
by Randy Pascal

The local ringette contingent came through with another solid performance recently as the 2013 North East Regional Ringette Championships were hosted in Timmins.

A pair of Sudbury representatives returned home as gold medal winners, as did the U18 crew from Valley East. In U10 novice play, the Sudbury Storm edged Sault Ste Marie 6-5 in the final as Tessa Favero paced the attack with a hat-trick for the winners.

Emma Vaillancourt chipped in with a pair of goals, with Tanya Fedorowicz rounding out the offense. The Sudbury Fury upended Timmins Tisdale Plumbing 8-5 in the U12 Petite championship affair, with Kristy St Amour scoring three times to lead the way.

Stephanie Menard added a two goal effort, with singles coming courtesy of Kaitlyn Chevrier, Emily Baxter-Brown and Kristina Levert.

The Valley East U18 Ringers overcame a round robin loss to Thunder Bay, turning the tables in the gold medal affair with a 6-4 win. Renée Delarosbil recorded the hat-trick in helping the Ringers claim the hardware, with Sabrina Bolduc, Sarah Ciammaichella and Brooke Hope adding one goal apiece.

A pair of local teams had to settle for silver, with Sudbury dropping the U14 final 8-7 to Timmins Rehab Plus. Kyla Bruni showed the way for the Sudbury crew with a four goal performance, with Taylor Gilchrist adding a pair and Allison McLean closing out the offense.

A more low scoring encounter in the U16/19 Junior/Belle "C" final as Iroquois Falls squeezed past Valley East G.I. 3-2. Danika Delarosbil and Kaitlyn Coufal found the back of the net for the Valley East squad.
